Winning Photo: "Cloud Gate"

Cloud Gate, a 110-ton steel structure conceptualized by artist Anish Kapoor at Millennium Park, Chicago. Standing in the middle of “the bean” looking up, I snapped this shot capturing the center of “the bean’s” underbelly. You can see the flash reflecting throughout the structure in a circular motion, creating an awkwardly beautiful image.

Cloud Gate standing from the steps in Millennium Park with Chicago’s architecture reflecting in the background. Known well as “The Bean,” this structure attracts thousands of people a day, forcing them to stop for a moment out of their busy lives to appreciate the flawless steel and the reflections it captures.

Melissa Curran enjoys photography in her free time. It has always been a hobby of hers - allowing her to escape
the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Melissa graduated from Providence College and Wheelock College with a
Bachelor of Arts and a Masters Degree, both in social work. She currently works as a school social worker and
resides in Wethersfield, Connecticut.
