Derek Batz's Biography:

Derek’s inspiration for these images came from the ART of photography. These images are a reproduction of the original negatives which have been treated in various ways. The act of making the negative fail is just as much a work of art as the image you see. This was one of his major themes in Art School at UCONN.  Abstracts appeal to his desire to be different and ahead of the pack. He wanted to have a body of work unlike others. His enjoyment of alternative processes in photography developed into an idea that he could manipulate the negative in an untraditional way. In seeing how beautifully the negatives failed in his first attempts, his motivation grew. He worked with many different ways to make the negative fail, that culmination of ambition and hard work resulted in the images here as well as others in his collection.  His personal ambition aside, he is a photographer by trade, specializing in weddings and nature.
