Winning Photo: "Mount Kilauea"

This photograph was taken in Hawaii, the most recent state of the United States of America. It was taken from a helicopter flying over the summit of Mount Kilauea, on the Big Island of Hawaii.   Since 1983 Kilauea has been continuously erupting. It is one of the only places in the world where people can explore an active shield volcano. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has a scalding terrain, yet enchanting beauty.  Out of the 13 climate zones worldwide, Hawaii possesses 11 of them with great distinction.

Just beyond Hawaii Volcanoes National Park there are astonishing valleys of waterfalls and rainforests. Hawaii is undoubtedly one of America’s most beautiful states.

A recent graduate of the University of Connecticut with a BFA, Jessica currently works as an expressive therapist in a psychiatric rehabilitation hospital. She is also a free-lance photographer and painter.
